Snowshoe National Championships

23nd annual United States Snowshoe National Championships – The 2024 Snowshoe National Championships will be held this year Feb. 9-11 in Eau Claire, WI at Lowes Creek County Trails. Snowshoe events will include crowning a boys and girls Middle School, High School, and Collegiate National champion in the 5k, National Championship 10k, an open 5k, a kids kilo, the return of the snowshoe half marathon and a relay. Looking Back At 2023
In cooperation with local event organizers and The Pulse Running and Fitness Shop of Meridian Idaho, United States Snowshoe Association (USSSA) organized the 2023 edition of the U.S. National Snowshoe Championships at Jug Mountain Ranch in McCall, Idaho on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Perennial favorite Joseph Gray, Colorado Springs, CO, owned the course, going wire to wire for victory in the men’s race earning him his third national snowshoe title (2018, 2020 and now 2023). The eventual winner of the women’s open race, was defending champion USSSA Director Jackie Hering of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin. National championship participants must use snowshoes that meet USSSA’s minimum size requirement.

Free Race Calendar Listing – The American Trail Running Association offers several programs to help snowshoe and trail running race directors make their events safer and more successful. Race directors can add their events to the ATRA calendar for FREE. Simply register and account and submit your event!

Event Liability Insurance – Snowshoe race directors who become ATRA race members are eligible for our T.R.I.P. event liability insurance program. This insurance is tailored exclusively for trail running and snowshoe races. Learn more about T.R.I.P. and apply here.

Free Event Standards Program – ATRA’s Event Standards Program is a free service for all trail and snowshoe race directors. Events that follow our 15 step best practices guidelines are entitled to use our “Meets ATRA’s Event Standards” label on their website, social pages and other promotional material. United States Snowshoe Association

The United States Snowshoe Association (USSSA) is devoted to promoting outdoor winter safety in conjunction with recreational snowshoeing. USSSA has been the lead governing body for the sport of snowshoe racing in the USA since 2001.

World Snowshoe Federation (WSSF)

The World Snowshoe Association (formerly known as the ISSF) is a non-profit, international sports federation, that was founded in 2010. The primary mission of the WSSF is to serve as the international governing body for the Sport of Snowshoe Racing and to assist in the organization and governance of the various national governing bodies for Snowshoe Racing around the World.

They hosted the 2022 European Snowshoe Championships at the La Ciaspolada race in Val di Non, Italy on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Results are available here.

The 14th annual World Snowshoe Championship was held on September 3, 2022 in Argentina. See results from the 2022 World Championship HERE. See all results from previous World Snowshoe Championships going back to 2006 on the WSSF website.

The perfect snowshoe would allow the user to float on top of even the fluffiest snow, would weigh nothing, would last a lifetime, would go on as easy as a slipper and be just as comfortable, would not require any adjustment from a normal walking stride, would have the traction of a mountain goat, and cost no more than a cup of coffee. Crescent Moon – Vail, Colorado a couple of young ski bums started making snowshoes in their garage so they could get to those secret stashes of snow and ice where only the lightest, but strongest snowshoes could take you. A few years later a young couple came along and asked the guys if they would like to make a business out of it by moving to Boulder. From one garage to the next and then into a production facility as the ski bums grew up and the young couple began a family and the Crescent Moon company grew and became a brand that only the best outdoor retailers wanted to carry.
