The final event in the USA Track & Field’s national championship series ended with Patrick Reagan and Julie Kheyfets earning victories. The 2019 USATF 100 Mile Trail Championships was held in conjunction with the Brazos Bend 100 organized by Trail Racing Over Texas. Now in its sixth year, the event hosted 900 hardy trail runners across four races – 100 mile, 50 mile, 26.2 miles and 13.1 miles – races for all ability levels.
The Brazos Bend course is the fastest trail in Texas trail running. The course is 99.9% flat, and the only hill is 10 feet. Other than that one hill, athletes ran on flat surfaces that move from hard crushed rock, soft trail under canopy, and easy horse trails. The 50 mile topped out at 300 feet of elevation gain, while the 100 miler had only 600 feet of total elevation gain.
Hoka One One athlete Patrick Reagan (Savannah, GA) won the Brazos Bend 100 in a new course record of 12:21:43. Julie Kheyfets (New York, NY) took the women’s title in 15:34:25. This is Kheyfets’ second win at the Brazos Bend 100.
Winning the overall women’s masters (40+) division and the 50-54 age group, Denise Bourassa (Lakewood, CO) finished in 17:01:36. In 2018, she took the bronze medal at the USATF 100 km Road Championships.
